The Opera House Holiday Fundraiser Carnival Love Party
w/ performances by Pataphysics, The Carnys, & The Bill Jefferys
7pm @ The Opera House
$5 suggested donation
This is our first fundraiser party ever in our 2 years of operation. The Opera House was gonna close-up for good back in October due to financial fiascos. Now, thanks to Liz Gomez (our new arts co-ordinator!) we've decided to keep on going, but we still cannot survive without your support! We are the only shop/artspace in Austin - a place where you can buy and sell old and new one-of-a-kind things, plus see and participate in art, live performance, and crafts all under one roof. Where else can you see a noise band and buy socks at the same time, or go to a clothing swap, learn how to repair your pants, get a sequin leotard, sell your handmade dress, or go home with a cd made of all your favorite '45s. We have practically given you everything for free and well, it's about time some of that good karma started comming back to us.
So, please come to our Holday Carnival Love Fundraiser Party! You will be dazzled by our friends The Bill Jefferys, The Carnys, & Pataphysics. Plus try your luck at a Cakewalk and Coloring Contest! Also, become a co-operative member by joining our Rent Club and recieve special benefits! Or sign up to become a volunteer! Plus get a new Opera House handmade t-shirt or sweatshirt. Hope to see you there and pssss..pass it on...
Friday 12/7
Paintings by Mary W. Andrus
opening reception 7-10pm
W/ performances by The Gregoreze + Teddy & Marge
@The Opera House
Local painter Mary Andrus creates images like a flash in time, representing life through memories, dreams, or a snippet of thought. An element of destruction or danger plays the catalyst in many of her works like a twirling tornado or a snake ready to pounce. There is a rustic quality to her pictures, something country or Texan though, sometimes blurred by soft tones. Mary's work will be on view through the month of December. Come celebrate the opening reception with live music by an operatic singing group, The Gregoreze, plus that old timey favorite duo, Teddy & Marge.

"The World We Love", the very broad theme and title of the photography show at the Opera House this September, is meant to refocus our thoughts on the emotional motivations for image-making. Through the color work of Austin artists Erica Nix, Fernando Flores, and Amanda Jones we experience a spectrum of spatial realities: serene emptiness, singular potency, and chaotic saturation. A range of technical styles is also represented, from crisp digital, to blurry double-exposures. There will be many small pieces, priced affordably, so come with your collector’s eye ready, or to find that perfect gift.
